Moral Commentary on the History of the Evangel by the Spanish Jesuit and theologian Diego de Baeza (1582–1647) comes from the library of the writer and Chancellor of the Grand Duchy of Lithuania Jan Fryderyk Sapieha’s (1680–1751) library in Kodeń. The book is decorated with the heraldic ex libris of Jan Sapieha’s library, which was engraved by the Dutch born Polish artist Jan Friedrich Mylius, who worked in 1728–1750. Ex librises first appeared in Lithuania in the 16th century, when printed books became more common. In the 18th century, ex librises (marks indicating the owner of the book) began to be used widely in Lithuanian libraries.
