German historian and professor of the University of Königsberg Caspar Schütz (~1540–1594) published his most important historiographical work History of Prussian Affairs in 1592 in Zerbst. It describes historical events up to 1525. In 1599, an augmented edition was published with an addition on Prussian history up to 1598 by German historian David Chytraeus (1530–1600). The book provides an overview of the foundation of the Teutonic Order, its wars, and the relationship between the Duchy of Prussia and neighbouring countries. It also includes a description of the legendary siege of the Pilėnai Castle in 1336.
