Veronica wipes the face of Jesus is the sixth station of the Way of the Cross which depicts a woman separating from the crowd in order to wipe blood and sweat from the face of Jesus as He carries His cross. Jesus badly beaten and wearing the crown of thorns handed the veil back and the image of His face was impressed upon it.

When Jesus was carrying the cross through the gates of Jerusalem, a woman called Veronica offered Him a white veil, so He could wipe his face, because blood was running down his eyes and face. After He wiped his face with the veil, the image of the Saviour’s face was impressed upon it as if it had been painted. Veronica kept the veil with great care as a holy thing.
