Confessio catholicae fidei christiana: vel potius explicatio quaedam confessionis, in synodo Petricoviensi, a pattibus provinciarum Gnesnensis, & Leopoliensis, in regno Poloniae factae, anno domini M. D. LI. Wien, M. Zimmermann 1561. Gr. 4°. 10 Bll. (Bl. 8 w.), 356 (recte 355) num. Bll., 39 Bll., mit (blattgr.)

The author Stanislovas Hozijus (1504-1579) was born in Krakow and raised in Vilnius. His father Ulrikas, the castellan and chief of the mint, who modernised the city’s infrastructure (he built the Green Bridge and created a water supply system), had come to Vilnius and lived there until his death in 1535. The future cardinal most likely spent his childhood in the House of the Hozijus (Hosius) Family in Vokiečių street (now the premises of the restaurant “Žemaičių smuklė”). Hozijus later studied and worked in Poland. The book includes and engraving of the Grand Duke of Lithuania Žygimantas Augustas.

Stanislaus Hosius (1504–1579) lived in Vilnius for a long time and was the Cardinal, Bishop of Chełmno and Warmia, and secretary to the Ruler of Poland and Lithuania (1538–1549). He wrote theological works and polemic letters. His most important work, Christian Catholic Profession of Faith is a code of Catholic doctrine. The book is dedicated to the King of Poland and Grand Duke of Lithuania Sigismund Augustus, whose portrait is included next to the dedication.
