The collected works of the progenitor of Lithuanian fiction Kristijonas Donelaitis (1714–1780), Lithuanian Poetry, is composed of the following works: the poem The Seasons (written in Lithuanian); all six of his fables (The Fox’s and the Stork’s Feast (Lapės ir gandro čėsnis), The Clever Dog (Šuo Didgalvis), The Wolf Judge (Vilks provininks), The Braggart Oak (Aužuols gyrpelnys), The Dog at the Fair (Rudikis jomarkininks), and Fable of the Dung Beetle (Pasaka apie šūdvabalį)); the rhyming work Pričkus’ Tale about a Lithuanian Wedding (Pričkaus pasaka apie lietuvišką svodbą), a Lithuanian-German dictionary, and Donelaitis’ letters. The book was prepared for publishing by the German philologist August Schleicher (1821–1868), and published legally during the period of the Lithuanian Press Ban by the Russian Imperial Academy of Sciences Printing House.
