Martynas Liudvikas Gediminas Rėza (1776–1840) was a Lithuanian theologian from Eastern Prussia, folklorist, specialist in Lithuanian philology, and professor at the University of Königsberg. In 1825, along with 9 assistants, he compiled the first collection of Lithuanian folk songs and melodies Songs, or Lithuanian Folk Songs. The songs in the collection were translated into English, Czech, Italian, Polish, Russian, and German. The book contains an article by Rėza - “Studies of Lithuanian Folk Songs” which, among other things, includes the surnames of the song collectors. The book was published by the Hartungsche printing house, which operated in Königsberg in 1734-1871. The printing house had departments of stereotypes and lithography as well as a bindery and a bookshop. It was one of the most modern and powerful printing houses in Lithuania Minor, and printed books and small works in Lithuanian, Latvian, German, and other languages.
